Hunter's Home - Home of Hope and A Future
Hunter’s Hope acquired a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment in April 2005, a 2-bedroom,
1-bath in March 2006, and another 2-bedroom, 2-bath in March 2007 for our
Leukodystrophy families to stay in while getting treatment (bone marrow or cord
blood transplant or pre/post transplant check-ups) for their children at Duke
University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Our apartments are fully
furnished with all the furniture donated from one of our Strategic Partners,
Aaron Rents. The rest of the apartment furnishings (kitchen
appliances, dishes, bedding, towels, etc.) have been donated from Bed, Bath &
Beyond, Wal-Mart, Liam Hammonds Memorial Foundation and some from our very own
families.
The apartments are 4.7
miles from Duke Hospital and are open to all leukodystrophy families when
available. There is no charge for a family to stay at a “Hunter’s Home”, but
donations can be made if the family is able and wants to.
Since acquiring our
apartments they have been occupied on a continual basis, with the families
staying anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 year.
We are always accepting
donations to assist with the cost of constantly updating and improving our
apartments. Monetary donations or gift cards (Bed, Bath & Beyond, Wal-Mart, JC
Penney, Sears or Target stores) would greatly be appreciated.
If you would
like to donate or check availability, please contact Kelly Brown, Director of
Family Programs at
